Product Development Manager – iAM, LLC 2002-2004

Architect and product manager for Adaptive Marketing Technology (AMT): a Documentum-based (5x), Web-enabled Content Management system for the creation and distribution of targeted communications in the retirement services arena. AMT facilitated the creation, control, and distribution of variable personalized content On-Demand, across multiple media to print, via the Web or other formats as desired.

Major Achievements:
Lead team of developers in the design, testing and implementation of AMT. Established Web site and coordinated respective negotiations and resultant contract for suitable provider; evaluated various OS software and hardware platform alternatives; Established partnership arrangements with key software vendors including Documentum and Oracle; Concurrently managed marketing and sales plan. Evaluated, selected and deployed sales contact management system for sales team. Met with industry analysts and consultants to create an awareness of IAM and the AMT product; Attended and spoke at key industry conferences as subject matter expert; Coordinated focus group activities and resultant feedback into the design effort; Worked with strategic partners in responding to various RFPs and developed concomitant project implementation plans.

Managed the Company’s Document On Demand systems, a Documentum based marketing content management system. Responsible for the Detail Design and RFP documents for evaluation and selection of vendor solution; Responsible for managing contractor and all deliverables within budget and timeframe; Worked with HR to develop and manage in-house teams necessary to support the new product and subsequent releases. Worked with CTO to coordinate Internet and digital print capabilities at separate locations; assisted CTO in design of On Demand booklet maker and subsequent contract coordination, testing and delivery of equipment. Developed and managed project plans for successful bids; Worked directly with client liaison to ensure timely and successful implementations.
Tangential responsibilities included concomitant sales and marketing efforts in advance of product delivery; Worked with sales team to create a “road show”’; met directly with potential clients; open and closed conference engagements in order to build excitement for the upcoming product release; Additionally, worked with corporate marketing group to create the necessary sales collateral and presentation material. Assisted in the technical RFP response process and did joint sales calls.

First product released within six months of project initiation; First client on board 1 month later. Business development activities resulted in $5 million in revenue first year. Success resulted in the creation of a new company, Bowne Enterprise Solutions with Documents On Demand as its cornerstone product with projected 5 year revenues of $400million.

Responsible for all aspects of managing the business including financials, marketing and sales, staff expansion and reduction, training, software development and documentation, and client liaison. Primary focus was the “hands on” design and implementation of accounting management software in the legal, public and private sectors; Customized, Pick OS, software with LAN technology to offer client/server multi-user mission critical solutions. Solutions included General Ledger, Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, Payroll and Inventory Control. Responsibilities included all aspects of software life-cycle from requirements gathering and business analysis through design, testing, technical and user documentation and implementation. Formed strategic alliances with major law firms and local quasi-governmental concerns to establish software and hardware platform legitimacy; coordinated and managed technical and marketing partnership agreements at the highest level with IBM, Novell and other related hardware and software vendors necessary to support our product lines. Responsible for all aspects of sales and marketing activities including collateral development, PR, focus group process and speaking engagements;
1987 Consulted with Northrop Grumman on system to track and manage access to all classified document and personnel records in specialized compartmental areas; led to customized software implementation across entire company. Subsequently became MIS flagship product for the DOD community with clientele including Lockheed Martin among others.

- Founded and grew Maryland Information Systems Inc. for 14 years with revenue exceeding $1,000,000 annually and 10 full time consultants.
- Received Baltimore Mayors commendation for working with local community education officials on a weekly basis to teach tech skills to troubled students;
- Taught LAN technology course at local community college.
- The Legislative Information System (LIS) at the White House; a customized Notes-based records management solution used to track and coordinate all access to correspondence, testimony and proposed legislation between and the Executive Offices of the President of the United States.
- Access and Document Control Management system for the Department of Defense in Special Access Programs in the Sensitive Compartmented Information arena; included personnel access control, program management, and document management using bar code technology.
- Design and implementation of Trident submarine Weapons Maintenance System Prototype.
